Q: Acid stomach and mild pain when stomach is empty?
For the last 6 month I seemed to have developed acid stomach. It especially attacks when my stomach is empty. I always have to keep some food in my stomach to avoid an attack. I am also generally have blood sugar issues and need to eat often. I pee a lot and drink a lot of liquids. My grandmother had diabeties and I am worried that I have it too. I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of weeks but I am concerned. Anybody know what this is?

A: I believe you have acid reflux disease. If you do have diabetes you may or may not it doesn’t affect stomach acid!

Diabetes Symptoms

* Frequent urination
* Excessive thirst
* Unexplained weight loss
* Extreme hunger
* Sudden vision changes
* Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
* Feeling very tired much of the time
* Very dry skin
* Sores that are slow to heal
* More infections than usual.

Q: How do you cure an acid stomach?
It burns my stomach and it is bloat , I’m not going to the washroom reguarly, my pee is bright yellow, I’m breaking out in sweats. and I it feels heavy my stomach
What do I do?

A: Sounds like you need to see your doctor…. Over the counter stuff might not help

Q: Remedies for acid stomach that help arthritis pain?
My arthritis in shoulder, elbow & hands is more painful when I have acidic stomach. This occurs mostly if I eat meat , apart from Gaviscon medicine is there a quick fix, like lemon juice ? Any suggestions welcome. I am a believer that diet helps arthritis, I avoid too many painkillers and I try to avoid eating meat.

A: I answered your other question. try the milk or dry bread for tonight, make sure you are taking anti-inflammatory pills for the arthritis, if you have run out…crank up the heating for tonight so that you are warm and comfy.
Dont drink anything acidic……….that will only make things worse. leave the Lemons alone.

Q: what to do to neutralize the acid stomach?
I think I have a little bit high acid in my stomach, and I want to neutralize it to balance out my body so I can gain wt…b/c I am underweight and thanks

A: Two questions in one,is the acid stomach ongoing after every meal,or infrequent?Is the stool black at times?I would have it checked once by doctor to rule out bleeding ulcer or growth in the stomach (very unlikely).Use antacids (Maalox,Mylanta,Tums) lightly until checked for instant relief and hold off acid-blockers until seen.Underweight warrants a visit to MD/nutritionist as well.

Q: What is the best medicine for acid/stomach pain?
I’ve been drinking too much soda for the last 3 days w/no water..and now feeling so painfull in my stomach……kinda like acid pain…….I’m really hurting and it bothers me so much where I feel like doing nothing………..Tums don’t work to me…………..also I feel like I’m going to throw up……….

A: try over the counter zantac. or some liquid mylanta.

Q: What is the substance in antacids that soothes ur heartburn or acid stomach?

A: Reading my tums now: Calcium Carbonate 750 mg

Calcium carbonate is a base, (thus neutralizes acids). I’m guessing the calcium is there as opposed to any other spectator ion because its calcium enriched.

Q: Can iced tea cause acid stomach? Is decaf tea any better about being acid?
It’s summer and I’m drinking a good bit of iced tea (black iced tea). I’m also getting an acid stomach in the evening. Tea has a ph of 4.9 which is fairly acid. Is decaf (black) tea any less acid?

A: You should switch to decaffeinated if you suffer from acid stomach. My mom has the same problem. She switched and has less problems with acid reflux.

Q: What causes a person to burp the odor of very strong, rotten stomach acid?
This is not a joke. He burps at least 5 to 10 times per hour and it is very offensive. The odor is nauseating and it makes me feel like I am going to throw up. It smells like rotten stomach acid. Now he passes rotten smelling gas and the odor stays in his underwear. Its rancid! I can smell his acidy gas odor in my recliner chair where he sat last evening for 2 hours watching TV. I am seriously thinking about throwing it out.
I have smelled some pretty rotten things before because I am a nurse, but this is way out of anything I have ever seen. Where do you think the problem is. I know it is not normal to burp up stomach acid over and over and over and he keeps saying “excuse me”. Do you think he may have some type of digestive disorder?

A: Sounds like a couple of things…but the most obvious to me is the small intestine’s bacterial overgrowth prematurely fermenting food. The most common cause of bad breath is the poor digestion of food. This results in undigested food being fermented in the intestines. The odor is capable of escaping back up through the mouth from the intestinal tract….or it can cause an uncomfortable bloating in the abdominal region and lead to flatulence.

Some other causes: Acid Reflux Disease, ulcers, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn’s Disease, even Diabetes. Advise the gentleman to have a G.I. series performed if he hasn’t already.

I’ve heard of people using baking soda and water as a home remedy when the cramps and foul-smelling gas explusion begins.

Best of luck – that’s has got to be a real pain to experience and to be around.

Q: Is vinegar good or bad for people with excessive stomach acid?
I have mild gastritis and recently it has been acting up. I take medicine on a daily basis but would like to improve my diet rather than continually taking medicine.

I have read that one cure for excess stomach acid is drinking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. However, on other websites I have read that vinegar is to be avoided (which seems to be common sense) because it is acidic.

Which is it? Is vinegar a cure or will it drill a hole in my stomach???

A: Organic unrefined apple cider vinegar such as (Bragg’s) diluted with water is extremely beneficial to those with any gastrointestinal disorder which hampers their ability to make adequate hydrochloric acid for digestion.It is also good for heart burn and over acidity as it alkalizes Ur blood.When they mention vinegar they are talking about refined white vinegar used in processed food and yes you should avoid white vinegar and any other form of vinegar except for organic unrefined apple cider vinegar be sure its unfiltered.

Q: what is good to eat or drink for stomach acid?
my mom is currenlty in hospice care for ovarian cancer and we are having problems with too much stomach acid making it difficult for her to eat.
currently she is not able to really eat much because she is nauseous.

A: That fact is that we need a highly acidic condition in our stomach to properly digest protein. Using drugs to suppress this stomach acid may not be the correct way to deal with acid reflux or heartburn. If you do go down this route, you may be facing more problems as you get older.

When too little acid is causing heartburn or acid reflux it makes no sense to use antacids or acid blocking drugs which decrease your stomach acid even more. Low levels of stomach acid may lead to serious illnesses.

Some people have had great success in reducing or indeed totally relieving the effects of acid reflux by drinking small amounts of Apple Cider Vinegar. Many people are claiming that by taking 3 tablespoons 3 times a day there symptoms have been relieved.

In some cases the heartburn you are suffering may get worse for around 20 minutes before reducing dramatically. In many cases this can be put down to the type of Apple Cider Vinegar taken. Try and only use a well-filtered organic vinegar purchased from a reputable outlet.

There are many reasons you might have acid reflux. One reason is a weakness in the Lower Oesophageal Sphincter valve, LES. The LES is a valve between your stomach and your esophagus. When your LES valve is weak or relaxes at the wrong time, it can allow acidified, partially digested food to flow back up into your oesophagus. The acid in the food will burn the lining of your esophagus causing the so-called “heartburn…” but can also feel like pressure in the chest, which is why it is sometimes confused with feelings associated with heart attacks. In some cases Heartburn is caused by to little or too much stomach acid.

These foods can weaken the LES valve – coffee, peppermint, spearmint, sugar, chocolate, onions, and alcohol. Once you have strengthened your LES, you can return to eating these foods in moderate amounts.

Q: Why does the PH in stomach acid raise after taking antacids?
Am helping my brother with his science project and need to understand something. By nature the acid in our stomach has a PH of 2-3. When it rises above 3 there is more acid and which it causes heartburn. So in taking antacids it lowers the acids but raises the PH. How is that possible? I read this in ezine articles. Or am understanding wrong.?

A: Antacids neutralize some of the stomach acid raising the pH.
Raising the pH lowers the acidity.
Heartburn is usually associated with regurgitation of gastric acid into the esophagus.
It has nothing to do with the acidity of the stomach being too acidic. It is because the esophagus is not meant to cope with stomach acid.

Q: If you put jello mix in your stomach would it solidify your stomach acid to were you never have to eat again?
“If you put jello mix in your stomach would it solidify your stomach acid to were you never have to eat again”?
i foud this on wikkie how and i wonder if it could happen

A: No, the combination of stomach acid and the heat of your body would prevent it from gelling.

Q: How does the live culture in yogurts pass to our intestine through stomach acid and not get killed?
Stomach acid breaks down foodstuffs which pass through the body via the blood system so how can live culture such as acidophulus and lactobacilious make it past the stomach and reach the intestine to do good in the bowels?

A: These health products claiming improved resilience to illness using these live cultures are a complete farce.

As you yourself logically reasoned the bacteria in these yogurt/drinks can not possibly survive the acidic conditions in your stomach. There was an article in the Daily Telegraph where the specialist GP said exactly the same. Unfortunately I cannot find this article. So I spoke to a Dr friend who confirmed what the article said

So why do people swear they feel better. The power of the
placebo.
This article talks about these yogurt drinks. Apparently some bacteria reach our gut and some bacteria are acid resistant. However the article does not seem very conclusive. Lots of doubts and questions unanswered.

Q: How long can frogs or tadpoles live in stomach acid?
my daughter is doing her science fair project and she needs to find out how long can frogs or tadpoles live in stomach acid or a chemical very close to it.

A: They cant. Hydrochloric acid (which is found in our stomach and those of most mammals and even some reptiles) is among the strongest acids known to man. It would die pretty much instantly upon contact. A few seconds at the very most.
