zantac
A: We had the same problem. First of all, who was the GENIUS who thought MINT was a good flavor base for an infant??? What a dope, huh? And the grape only barely covers that flavor up. Ick, ick, ick!
After some trial and error and asking my doc and pharmacist if this was ok, I found something that worked for us. I would get the Zantac as is, mint flavor, no grape. I’d pull up the correct dosage into the syringe and then pull up as much apple juice into the syringe as it could hold. The apple juice diluted the Zantac and was more palatable for the baby. Also aim the syringe into the back of baby’s cheek and release it slowly, going in 2 or 3 tries (rather than all at once).
Another option is to see if there is a compounding pharmacy in your area. At the compounding pharm, they make the med from scratch and can leave out the mint & only add the flavoring you want.
Hope that helps & good luck
Note for Allison R: Infant reflux is actually different from adult reflux. Infant reflux is due to the esophagus being immature and usually is resolved by 6 months. Adult reflux is caused by abnormalities in the lower esophageal sphincter, esophageal hernias, esophageal contractions or stomach distension (overeating). Occasionally it is caused by too much stomach acid. I would caution against giving an infant a soda compound. It will likely lead to MORE spitting up and the sodium is really bad for their immature kidneys. Just FYI
Q: Can I take Zantac 150 an hour before lunch and then again an hour before dinner?
Will Zantac 150 work if I took it about 3 hours before my first meal or does it have to be 1 hour before? Would 1 pill a day llast me through lunch and dinner?
A: one pill should last 24 hours
Q: If I take a Zantac with my Vicodin, will it stop me getting an upset stomach?
I had oral surgery and given Vicodin, when whenever I try to take it I feel very ill (even on a full stomach).
Will taking a Zantac with it help?
A: I dont know about Zantac, because Vicodin is meant to give you an upset stomach to deter abuse of it.
However, I was taking Prilosec when I had my tooth removed, and I had no nausea to speak of
So I can vouch for prilosec, also pepermint tea works too <3
Q: How long did you child take to gain weight from Zantac?
My son recently got perscribed Zantac. They just said he has “acid reflux.” Hes been on it for two weeks now. He is under the 3rd percentile. and can still fit in 3 month clothing. How long did it take ur child to gain some weight from it? I think something else is wrong. He still spits up the same amount and is still around the same weight. Hes 10 months and 16lbs.
A: my son was diagnosed wit reflux around 2 months and was also given zantac .. he is now 10 months old and weighs 26 pounds and in the 95 percentile but as soon as he started taking the zantac it helped right away and as long as i give it to him it doesnt bother him in anyway . so it worked for him but i think you should def ask the doctor
Q: Anyone have success stories with zantac or prevacid for their baby?
My baby is 4 months old and has been diagnosed with acid reflux she is always spitting up and is very uncomfortable. Does anyone have good or bad experience with zantac or prevacid? I am a little leery to giver her medication everyday, but she she just seems so uncomfortable.
A: Prevacid was a Godsend for us. We tried the Zantac and it “teased” us for a couple of days while her screaming would subside….but then it would come back.
Three days on Prevacid and she was a different baby. She became so happy.
I was freaked out to about medication but the phramacist at our Target has a reflux baby and has her on Prevacid so I decided it must be okay.
Q: How long did it take for your child to START to improve after starting Zantac for acid reflux?
We just started the Zantac for my little girl this morning for acid reflux the dr. says it can take several days before we really see the full effect of the medicine. She has had 2 really awful nights and seems to be pretty content so far this evening so I guess I am just wondering if anybody saw this dramatic improvement the first day of starting it. I am just hoping to get some sleep tonight LOL.
A: It depends on what you are looking for as relief. Zantac wont stop the emesis (spitting up) it just decrease the amount of acid in the emesis so hopefully it wont burn as bad. Try placing your child in a steep incline well sleeping – this will help to decrease the reflux part which leads to the emesis.
Histamine is a naturally occurring substance in the body. It has several functions. There are 2 types of receptors capable of binding histamine. Type 1 receptors are involved in allergic reactions. Type 2 (H2) receptors play a role in acid production. Whenever histamine binds to an H2 receptor, it increases stomach acid production. H2 blockers, also called acid reducers, work by reducing the acidity of the stomach juices. Gastric reflux is the backwards movement of stomach contents into the esophagus (swallowing tube). With less acidity, reflux is less irritating to the stomach and esophagus. H2 blockers treat the symptoms of heartburn, but don’t treat the reflux.
Q: Does Zantac cause vomiting? Specifically brownish lumpy vomits in a 4 month old baby?
My son was diagnosed with reflux at 1 month. He is on Zantac, has been for about 2 months. We recently had to increase his dose and since then he has been vomiting brownish-yellow clumps. He has always vomited copiously and is also on a lactose-free formula to help, which has stopped the projectile vomits. But this is a new consistency and I wonder if it is related? On occasion he seems to choke with these vomits.
A: call the doctor right away and find out This might be a warning sign of something more serious. APlease dont take advice from this forum as I doubt any here are doctors even though we try to help you need a professional NOW
Q: How do I get my baby to take Zantac?
My 11 week old son has reflux, and gags at the very smell of the Zantac syrup. Why on Earth did the pharmaceutical co. make it taste like mint?! Anyhow, it works great when he is able to swallow it, about 1/2 the dosage some of the time, but he screams and I feel so bad… I’ve tried mixing it with water and using the medicine pacifier… Any thoughts?
Sorry, I forgot to mention I tried the dropper (that came with the medicine) but he gags. Even if I go reaaaaallly slow…
A: My daughter was diagnosed with reflux at 6 weeks. She started off on Zantac we tried everything to get her to take it with no luck. She screamed gagged and refused just like your baby. After two weeks I felt so bad for her that I refused to put up with it anymore. I demanded she be put on something else. The doctor put her on Prevacid (berry flavor powder you mix with water). She loved it a drank it very happily from the dropper. Her reflux improved dramatically. She is now 10 months old and has recently successfully come off of Prevacid.
Q: Can you take paracetemol with Zantac tablets?
I’ve just taken Zantac tablets for heartburn and I was wondering whether you can take paracetemol straight away after the zantac tablet or do you need to wait a couple of hours before you can take a paracetmol? I have such a bad headache!
A: You only have to wait 20 minutes when taking 2 different kinds of pills but taking something for your headache won’t hurt even if you just took Zantac. Try holding an ice pack on your head (wrap it in a pillow case, don’t put an ice pack directly on your head with out putting it in some type of wrapping) Put the ice pack on for 20 minutes of every hour until the head stops hurting. I have had headaches all my life and when your head hurts for a long time the blood vessels in the head enlarge. You have to shrink the vessels back to normal size and ice does that. The enlarged vessels get engorged with blood but the ice constricts the vessels and the engorged blood goes out and the head stops hurting. Try it, mine stops hurting after the first 20 minutes.
Q: What would happen to someone with a history of kidney stones, who took Zantac/Ranitidine for over 2 years?
I am interested to know whether taking Zantac/Ranitidine long term (300mg every day for over 2 years) is likely to have an effect on the condition of a persons kidneys, especially if they had a history of stones. Should a person with kidney stones even be taking Zantac? Is there any known evidence of Zantac causing kidney damage?
The Zantac was being taken to control acid stomach.
A: Ranitidine is a very safe medicine and it is documented to be safe for use over long periods of time. Taking zantac does not cause kidney stones or kidney damage. If you have chronic heartburn or gerd and the ranitidine is working I wouldnt worry about discontinuing it, if it is not working or you dont have these conditions talk to your doctor about if you need it or not or if you need another medicine
Q: Can i take Zantac 150 and tums at the same time?
Well i took zantac 6 hours ago and just ate. I just got diagnosed with acid reflex so im new to this stuff.
A: Zantac alone should help your problem. But if you must take a Tums, wait 2 hours after you take a Zantac( at least).
Give the ntac time to work though—you may not need the Tums!
Q: How much does a generic dosage of infant zantac cost?
Need to know about how much a generic bottle of infant zantac costs?
A: i think is $3.99 with insurance and $20 sometthing without.
i use the zantac brand for my baby only pay $20 since my insurance cover it, if without insurance $64.
Q: is there anywhere i can find information about Zantac causing slower growth patterns in some infants ?
has any one had this problem where there baby was put on to Zantac but it didnt seem to make a difference yet either while on zantac or once taken off it their childs weight gain slowed down?
A: Contact the manufacturers Glaxo Smith Kline on freephone 0800-221441 and ask for customer services, they are required by law to tell you, I’ve not come across that problem before.
Q: Is Zantac an H2 histamine blocker a normal protocol for children for allergies.?
My Granddaughter 4yrs has been taking Zyrtec for her allergies, a allergist put her on Zantac saying it was a H2 histamine blocker, and maybe the two together will help her. is this a normal protocol for possible food allergies?
A: Zantac is commonly used for food allergies. I am severely allergic to peanuts/tree nuts, and I take it along with my “allergy” meds. It helps. I would trust your allergist when it comes to this – especially when it comes to food allergies. They are SERIOUS business.
Q: a medical student in the nursing home calls down to the pharmacy and asks, ” Do you have Zantac 10 mg in stock?
I don’t see it n your formulary. Do you have Claritin in stock instead?” you suspect that the medical student has the wrong drug name. What medication might the student be looking for? What indication would make you think Zantac is not intended drug?
A: they are probably looking for zyrtec which is an allergy medication like claritin.
