Q: Is it okay to workout with GERD-like symptoms?
Hello, recently I was told I may have GERD, however, looking at my symptoms, I thought otherwise. Usually, GERD is accompanied by heartburn, but in my case, I rarely feel any kind of burning sensation anywhere in my stomach. The only symptoms I have that sound like GERD are that while working out I eventually vomit. The only way to prevent vomiting is to not eat ANYTHING for over 4 hours until my stomach is completely empty. Then if I work out I still get a gagging sensation occasionally, but other than that, I feel fine.
I workout with heavy weight and less reps. That probably increases abdominal pressure and increases reflux, which causes the nauseating feeling and causes me to vomit. I was told that one of my esophageal sphincters is loose, and is letting food back up.
Well, I have 2 questions.
1. How the heck can I strengthen that damn esophageal sphincter to be over with this retarded problem?
2. My summer goal was to put on lots of muscle mass. Is it safe to pursue it?
A: ok you can use this drug which is called metaclopramide (tablets) you can use it 15 min before you start your heavy workout and it is 100% safe drug …which is antiemetic and at the same time it will strengthen your lower esophageal sphincter
god bless you
Q: Are the symptoms to heart and Gerd are same ?
hello. i am feeling heartburn with other associated stomach problems. i also feel pain in chest and in shoulder as well, i also feel rapid heart rate . is it due to reflux (gerd) or there is any other problem , my cardiologist told me to not to worry . he told that i m suffering from gerd not with heart problem…. but i m very sad…. any help please?????
A: Unluckily they r same…very same, and in some case gerd even cause breathing troubles which makes the whole matter more worse. Apart from gerd these symptoms r also produced by anxiet/stress. I can understand ur state of mind bcoz i am going through the same problem, i am experiencing exact same symptoms, my cardiologist did some tests like ekg/echo…all of them turned out to be normal but it’s still hard for me to believe that it’s my stomach and not my heart.
Q: Can my GERD cause a bad odor/taste that only I can detect?
I have GERD and the usual GERD symptoms, along with a number of rarer symptoms my ENT and I seem to agree are caused by it, including occasional earaches and sinus aches, throat clearing, bitter taste in mouth, and an undescribable pungent odor only I can smell. Could the odor be HCl acid? HCl fumes? Esophageal scar tissue? It’s the same odor all the time, so I don’t think it’s stomach contents. It definitely improves slightly with H2 Blockers and temporarily with antacids, but is usually on and off throughout the day, every day. Sinuses are clean, uninflamed, uninfected. I am in excellent health, despite GERD. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
A: You may also have LPR (laryngeal pharyngeal reflux). The taste you’re talking about is the stomach acid. The medications may not be controlling the GERD as well as you’d hoped. Your ENT may want to increase your Rx dosage. Or, you might get an upper GI or endioscopy to determine if it’s worse then it was previously. There is also the option of surgery.
Q: Anyone experiance GERD in a baby? If so what were the symptoms?
I have a baby that cries non-stop when she’s awake and spits up constantly.
Proud, that is exactly what mine does! She is 1 mo. this week. What did you do for it?
A: My 11 week old has reflux since birth. ( lots of crying, constantly wants to nurse to soothe his irritated throat, eyes roll back almost like having a seizure, spits up alot as well as throws up, makes a disgusted face like hes tasting something gross that’s the milk coming up, sounds hoarse, has a times a faint cry, pull and tugs on my nipple while nursing) All these symptoms my son experiences. To help soothe his sore throat i try to nurse him constantly, yes its alot of work but im a stay at home mom. I also put him to sleep in his car seat most of the night, or his swing, even bouncer. Its best they sleep upright not to scare you but my son has choked in his sleep, and has real bad choking episodes. He is never left alone not for a second in fear he will choke. I had him seen by an GI specialist and he was put on prilosec, what a mistake after starting prilosec he screamed for 4 days straight did not sleep at all, and he had diarhia. I took him off it after 4 days and he was back to normal i figured out myself it caused him lots of tummy pain, i did some research and read how older adults got severe stomach pain. Iam currently dealing with it meds free and pray everyday it goes away, i might have him put on another type of med, but scared hes so little yet. Gonna have a talk with the pediatrician next month and see if we should wait until hes atleast 6 month to have him on meds. Good luck and god bless. Hang in there
Q: If my GERD symptoms are worse when I’m standing rather than sleeping… does it still help to raise my bed
A: It’s better to raise the head of the bed or to use two pillows.
Q: Are these GERD symptoms?
*bad taste in my mouth in the morning
*very full feeling
*cough
*nauses stomache
*some heart burn
should i take some prilosac? thats what the dr told my gf to try…thanks
A: ur proberly jst a bit sick lots of ppl gt so i think u should take some prilo sac
Q: my indigestion / gerd symptoms are making me feel so sick …?
do you suggest i skip dinner tonight to give my stomach a break? i feel so bloated nauseas and can’t stand it. will clear liquids help?
.
i haven’t eaten since 9 am this morning… almost 12 hours ago… so i don’t think its my oatmeal….. i have an appt with a GI dr. but not til april 14th
i feel miserable.
well according to my GI dr. my endo results show that I suffer severly from gerd, i don’t allow myself to have caffeine because of my high heart rate from anxiety i feel like even drinking a glass of water makes me sick. and my avatar is dressed like a nurse because i got accepted into the nursing program for the fall session : ) so i don’t know everything yet! i have a dr.s appt with my primary dr. on friday but wont get back into the gi’s office til two more weeks.
anne 2… i take something called omeprozzle which is suppose to help with the acid i think.
A: That is generic for propluside…spelling may be wrong…but not going to work. You need Nexium. I changed medical plans and they put me on that and I choked on water….so now I pay the extra 50.00 for Nexium….But if you contact astra-zenica, the maker, they will send you coupons for 30 or 50 $$ off….every lil’ bit helps. You must eat, but eat small meals often and decrease fried foods until you get everything under control. GL…I suffered for years, until the magic purple pill.
Q: GERD w/ various symptoms?
My mother has had GERD for the longest time. She has been prescribe Priolosec currently which is doing absolutly nothing for her. Her doctor told her to take 2 capsules a day instead of one and if it doesnt work she can try Nexium. In the past, she has taken Nexium, which is said works for her. But now, her symptoms are worse. She has stomach pains all day, sometimes she gets the chills, and really has no appetite for the food she eats. I know she is very fustrated b/c she doesnt enjoy her food anymore, and she is in pain all day long. What can she do? Are there any receipes or cookbooks specifically for ppl w/ GERD?
A: I know the feeling, I used to be on Nexium but am no longer because it was doing damage rather than helping. Here is some foods that can help and also some foods that you can add to your diet to allow others that you should not have, but can in moderation.
I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!
Three part answer information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, or can be Hereditary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon and Ginger in you diet, they have been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.

Q: Does, did your baby have GERD? If so what where their symptoms, and what helps?
I am beginning to wonder if my daughter has GERD. Heres her symptoms:
She chokes/coughs during and sometimes after feedings.
She hates laying flat, and she sometimes will spit up (so I elevate her)
She hiccups CONSTANTLY sometimes resulting in her spitting her food back up. And her hiccups make her VERY fussy.
And she swallows quite a bit. And even acts like shes chewing at times.
What do you think? I am definitely going to bring it up to the doctor and see what they say.
I don’t know are GERD and acid reflux the same thing? I just read something about GERD, but maybe but maybe its acid reflux… I don’t know shes my first.
A: Sounds like reflux. My daughter has had it since week 2. We have to keep her sitting at a 45 degree angle while feeding her and then 45 mins after she eats. She has projectile vomiting and you can hear it coming up. She has been on Zantac since she was 2 weeks which helps with the acid burning her throat. We elevated her crib too but she normally sleeps on my chest. After she eats at night its hard to keep her upright 45 minutes and stay awake myself. I saw you other question about the congestion. Alot of times when they spit up it goes into their lungs which will cause congestion. Just keep an eye on her when she spits up. If they are laying down is usually when it gets in their lungs. Good Luck.
Q: Could someone tell me all the possible symptoms of GERD?
A: Heartburn and acid regurgitation are the main symptoms for GERD. Besides there can be pain in the chest, hoarseness in the morning, difficulty swallowing, persistent dry cough, bad breath

Q: 16 week old infant, symptoms of GERD,no dr will see him?
Ok,none of the pediatricians in this area will see a baby without insurance. My son is exhibiting EVERY symptom of GERD. Is there anything I can do about this on my own? We have a pending medicaid case, but no doctors in this area will even see them with a pending medicaid case. It’s a “pay up front in full or don’t be seen”. Should I just start buying the formula for that, and try it out,and see if he takes to it well? I’m not sure how long my case is going to take to process, and he’s spitting up at EVERY feeding, and eating less. He’s also teething. He’s spitting up a LOT though. Any advice here? Should I buy the formula (ie enfamil AR or something) and try that out until he gets in to see a dr?
He was seen by a pediatrician TWO TIMES since he’s been born, and at that point,it wasn’t yet a problem.
Ok,so I tried the rice cereal bottle thing, and I guess more of his bottles will have to be made that way. He barely spit up any at all,and seems way more content. I started to sit him up after he eats in his swing.
We’ve been making the occasional cereal bottle for awhile now,but more of them are going to have to be made that way,or all of them.
A: Is he fussy when he’s spitting up? Is it projectile or just slowly coming up?
Spitting up is not always reflux, but if it is, there are a few things you can do to help:
Make sure you keep him upright for at least 30 minutes after each feeding
Try to feed him smaller, more frequent meals
Makes sure you burp him frequently
Use a wedge in his crib to keep up propped up when sleeping
Hope those help

A: Check out the link that I have provided. There are some other tricks to try. I was reading up on this and it says that babies usually out grow it, so that is a good thing to hear. I don’t think it would hurt to try enfamil AR but make sure that you take him to the doctor as soon as you can. Im from Canada and I just find it crazy that you cant just walk into a doctors office or hospital at any time and that you have to pay for it. That is crazy. I have never paid to get anything done at the doctors or hospital.
Good Luck with everything.

Q: Heartburn, GERD, Acid Reflex – What are the symptoms and how do I cure the pain?
A: Heartburn, GERD and Acid Reflux aren’t diseases but conditions. In a lot of cases they can be solved without medication.
You probably didn’t know this but when you swallow, if there are little bits of food that have not been completely chewed, they will actually scratch and damage the delicate cells of the esophgaus. This damage is usually in the form of tiny cuts or lesions and when acidic beverages like tomato or orange juice come in contact with this damage you will experience pain or a burning sensation in the chest area. Alcohol and spicy foods are also a no-no for many sufferers.
When your acidic stomach gases reflux into your esophagus and come in contact with these sores or lesions you will also experience a pain or burning sensation, because the stomach gases are also acidic. It’s much like spilling acidic vinegar on a cut…it will cause you pain.

Some of the things you’ll find answers to are:
>> Cure Your Heartburn or acid reflux without taking drugs
>> Understand why you get heartburn and your friends don’t
>> Stop suffering painful heartburn and reflux forever
>> Get a good nights sleep without pain or the extra pillows
>> Eat whatever you want without fear of pain
>> Eliminate chest pressure and pain
Q: What else can you eat if you have GERD (acid reflux disease)?
They say I can’t eat spicy, tomato sauce, fatty, citrus, etc….but what is left there to eat besides veggies, fruits, and poultry? I don’t want to starve myself. Because sometimes it feels that way. My GERD symptoms are somewhat improving, but what else can I eat? Do I need some kind of dietary supplement?
A: I have suffered through GERD also. I changed my diet to primarily fruits and vegetables but do eat all the foods that you aren’t supposed sometimes. The thing is, you need to alkalize your body, and once you do that, you will be able to eat all the spicy, tomato sauce, and fatty foods, to a limit of course. I felt the same way, fruits and vegetables really do not fill you up, and keep you hungry.
I would eat some rice with my vegetables most of the time to help me feel full. Also, why not make some stir fried vegetables with some cooked chicken on top. Its delicious, healthy, and exactly what you should be eating. Just remember to use very little oil, and not too much chicken, as it is an acidic food, and will worsen your GERD if you consume too much before your body is alkalized.
Hope I’ve helped.
