Q: Does anyone have a natural remedy for acid reflux disease?
I ask this simply due to the fact that I don’t have the money for prilosec-otc or other otc’s. My first doctor appointment (I just moved to area) is at the end of the week. Even if my doctor prescribes me meds, I may not be able to afford the co-pay due to a limited income. Any help in this arena will be helpful.

A: A table spoon of baking soda in about 3 oz of water does good for me. Also, you can buy (30) 75 mg tablets of generic Zantac for $3.00. No prescription.

Q: How can I prevent acid reflux disease?
I need to know all of the information out there about this disease. It is hard for me to sleep at night without getting ill. I drink a lot of coffee and pepsi which does not help the situation. But I NEED HELP (INFO) asap!!

A: i take antacid heartburn medication that i buy from the store and it has a percent of a dosage in each pill and it helps me out from gettin acid reflux
i quit drinking soda eating to much tomatos and carbinated drinks because i hate that “i think im goin to be sick feeling” every night before i go to bed especially when im sleeping

Q: which is better for acid reflux disease?
I currently take prilosec at 2x a day and found that it doesn’t always work. I even got a wedge to put under my pillow and that works but for flareups, is pepcid a/c better than prilosec and is it an OTC?

A: Pepcid is a H2 receptor antagonist. This means it works by blocking the production of stomach acid by your stomach’s parietal cells. Other H2 receptor antagonists are Tagament, Zantac, and Axid.

Prilosec is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). PPI’s block an enzyme in your stomach wall that produces acid. Other PPIs are AcipHex, Nexium, and Protonix.

Most physicians feel that PPI’s are more effective than H2 receptor antagonists. The best way to find out what works for you is to try the medication for at least 2 weeks.

I take Nexium for my GERD (acid reflux). AcipHex works for me also, but my insurer will not pay for it. If you have insurance, you may want to ask your physician for a prescription for one of the non-OTC PPI medications.

The problem with putting a wedge under your pillow is that it can simply make you sleep in a “bent” position, worsening your reflux by putting pressure on your esophageal sphincter http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/2006/0209/6867277.jpg. Some people raise the head of their bed with “bed risers” (search for an image of these if you’re interested).

You may also want to read about a “GERD diet”, which will help you avoid foods that can worsen your reflux. http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/2006/0209/6867277.jpg, http://www.midwestgastro.com/diet_nutrition/GERD.html

Q: can I have acid reflux disease if I don’t have heartburn?
I have sporadic sore throat and coughing, chest pains, nausea, and hoarseness. Usually the symptoms occur seperately or in pairs. Could I have acid reflux disease?

A: Acid reflex disease can be very serious. It can cause alot of problems including gastrointestinal bleeds and aspiration pneumonia. I sounds like that is what you might have. BUT, see your doctor first. Don’t treat your self. OTC medications can have serious side effect when mixed with other medications. Just because it is OTC does not mean it is always safe to take. You may had H pylori of another problem that needs to be treated.

Q: Is acid reflux disease and diarrhea be related? ?
I just got diagnosed with acid reflux disease. I have not started any medication for it yet. However, I have constant. diarrhea and/or loose stools. Is acid reflux and diarrhea related?

A: Yes, it could be related because it is all a part of your digestive system. I have acid reflux and IBS. Make sure you tell the Dr. who diagnosed that you have the combination because chronic diahhrea can also be symptoms of other health issues. Constant diahrrea is serious and inconvenient. I am on treatment as my acid reflux was causing more serious erosions in my throat. I highly reccommend you ask your Dr. Good Luck!

Q: Could my 4 year old have acid reflux disease?
He always says his stomach and throat hurts, but only when hes lying down about to go to bed. I do know hes not saying that just to stay up because I can tell when he is fibbing. Also, he didnt actually throw up but spit some out once one day and once another day. He is very energetic lately too, but still doesnt seem himself.

I already made a doc apt. I know, but in the meantime, what could this be?

A: It could be anything and nothing.Good luck with your doctor’s appointment.

Q: What are the warning signs you may have Acid Reflux Disease?
i think i may have it, what should i look for before consulting my doctor?

A: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Acid Reflux Desease, GERD are the same thing. My symptoms started five years ago. Extreme pain in the middle of my chest but no other symptoms I’ve tried not to pay much attention until one day suddenly I couldn’t breathe. Just the tiniest amount of air came through my throat. Well, I’ve had to calm myself down fast. It probably lasted a little over two minutes but in my mind I felt I will suffocate. This incident occured approx. 8-9 times including at night. I never regurgitated anything, it did not happen after I ate my meal, so my doctor thaught it’s probably psychosomatic/ crazy/ on my part. I went to see another one. Prescribed Losec 20 mg daily and in five years never had one recurrance. Perhaps my story does not fit the criteria for GERD but it’s a true story and there are always exceptions.

Q: What is best treatment for acid reflux disease besides Nexium?

A: Omeprazole, and lanzoprazole are the best medicines for that. You can try the OTC version of Prilosec.

Of course, it is always recommendable to get a doctor’s opinion.

Q: Im afraid to take my medicine for acid reflux disease what should I do.?
I take prevacid it works but has terrible side effects and upon further research I have found that it shuts down the most vital important function of your body and pretty much will kill you. It turns of pepsin an acid the turns protein into usable amino acids without this breakdown the body will slowly die muscles cannot get repaired bones tissue wont get restores osteoporosis will set it in and many vitamin deficiencies as well.

A: you don’t really need expensive chemicals that could kill you- do you?
try researching natural alternatives and lifestyle suggestions (not lying down flat after eating, no tight belts around stomach etc…)

Q: do u know that tomato sauce used in pizza ,spagetthi can make acid-reflux disease and it can turn into cancer?
its true because this is story of my friend
i dont think that tomato sauce is made of real tomatos

A: I assume you have a real link to prove this and not some location like The Onion

Q: Can enlarged adenoids be mistaken for asthma or acid reflux disease?

A: As far as disease is concerned: Asthma/ Reflux and adenoids are different problems, But some of the symptoms can be common like- Change in voice/ snoring/ breathlessness etc. but many features are different (like reflux causes heartburn, pain in abdomen/ Asthma will cause just breathlessness etc.) so any good doctor should not get confused between them.
Best wishes

Q: I have acid reflux disease any suggestions to help it stop?
I quit meat and am tryin to wean off of dairy , i take medicine and i have my bed on an incline

A: You must have a severe case, sounds like you’ve been to the dr. I used to have a lot of stomach problems and I just started getting off things one at a time till I got relief. Found out my problem was carbonated beverages. Except for 2-3 beers a week I don’t drink any more of them. That stopped the reflux, then I have had trouble with constipation so I did what you are doing get off red meat and dairy. Yogurt and water along with fiber pills, keeps me going and feeling good.

Q: I have really bad acid reflux disease?
what can protect my back teeth from stomach acid? It turns my teeth really yellow, my dentist recommened this stuff but it is really expensive, i was wondering if there were any home remedies, or cheaper stuff on the market?

A: I would recommend Ranitidine at a 150mg dose before bed. I have a few other tips to help you out also.

I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!

Three part answer information, what not to do, and what to do!

INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, or can be Hereditary

The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.

WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:

Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Tomato Based Products
Lactose

WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.

I would also look to putting Cinnamon in you diet, it has been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.

Q: Can acid reflux disease be controlled with alkali solutions?

A: try taking charcoal they sell the edible kind in most places.

Q: Is stomach ulcer different from acid reflux disease?
Are those two different diseases? Are they related? what are they and if they are different, what symptom makes them different?

Just trying to figure something out. A bit confused about this plz help>

A: Yes they are different. I have acid reflux disease..

Acid reflux has more to do with your esophagus. It’s just acid backing up from your stomach. You can get heartburn and indigestion. I’ve had to deal with it so much that i’ve gotten my esophagus stretched because of scar tissue build up.. it gets to the point where I can’t swallow any food and hardly any liquid.

A stomach ulcer is loss of the gastric lining in your stomach. Some people think they get heartburn or indigestion from it but its your stomach that’s burning. Usually they can bleed and you have to get part of the stomach removed to get rid of it.
